คำอธิบาย
สารสกัดจากกัมเรซินของ Boswellia serrata หรือสารสกัดกำยานถูกนำมาใช้ในการแพทย์พื้นบ้านมานานหลายศตวรรษเพื่อรักษาโรคอักเสบเรื้อรังต่างๆ ส่วนที่เป็นเรซินของ Boswellia serrata มี monoterpenes, diterpenes, triterpenes, tetracyclic triterpenic acids และมีสารสำคัญ pentacyclic triterpenic acid 4 ชนิด ได้แก่ กรด β-boswellic, acetyl-β-boswellic acid, 11-keto-β-boswellic acid และ acetyl-11-keto- กรด β-boswellic มีหน้าที่ในการยับยั้งเอนไซม์โปรอักเสบ จาก Boswellic Acid ทั้งสี่นี้ acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic เป็นตัวยับยั้งที่มีศักยภาพมากที่สุดของเอนไซม์ 5-lipoxygenase ซึ่งเป็นเอนไซม์ที่รับผิดชอบต่อการอักเสบ
